Drug Use Screening
Tool (DUST)
The Drug Use Screening Tool
(DUST) training programme assists professionals to talk to young people
effectively about substance use and direct them to appropriate services.
It is targeted at those who work with young people, especially those who
work with vulnerable groups such as Looked After Children , Young Offenders
& School Excludees. KDAAT funds KCA to provide a number of level I
& II training sessions across the county each year. If you are keen
for you or your organisation to receive DUST training, please contact
KCA on 01227 456744.
Level I training covers
drug awareness, how to spot the signs and symptoms, how to screen for
drug and alcohol problems, what specialist service are out there and how
and when to refer, attitudes and values and youth culture.
Level II training focusses
more on interventions that professionals can carry out with young people
that they work with, including motivational and harm reduction toolkits,
as well as looking at dependency and addiction in more depth.
If the KCA training for
DUST is at capacity, please contact KDAAT on 01622 669000 and inform us
of your interest in the training.

Anecdotal
Evidence
KDAAT commissions drug &
alcohol education, prevention & treatment services for young people
(aged under 18 years) across Kent on the basis of ongoing assessment of
need. However, there is a lot of evidence which is not officially collected
but is valuable to us for targeting our services.
Anecdotal evidence is often
reported to professionals by young people, parents or carers, or is witnessed
by the professional themselves. KDAAT wishes to collect this information
and use it to inform our commissioning strategy and to target service
responses. If you have heard any information about:
- Drug dealing to young
people
- Underage alcohol sales
- Solvent use in public
places
- Anything else that is
related to substance misuse
Please let us know (anonymously
if you wish) by phoning the Young People's Team on 01227 592433 or by
e-mailing kdat@kdaat.org
